Ferrari has introduced a new strictly limited series of vehicles called the J50. The unveiling has been quite a surprise and it was done at the National Art Centre in Tokyo. The Italian sports car brand has successfully completed 50 years in Japan and the celebration commenced with the revelation of the new J50.
The J50 is going to mark the return of the iconic targa body that has been the signature style of Ferrari cars during the ‘70s and the ‘80s.
The brand is going to produce only 10 of these two seater, mid-rear-engined cars. And in the spirit of Ferrari’s fuori serie tradition, each one will be tailored specifically to the customer’s requirements.
The J50 was created by Ferrari’s Special Projects arm. It is the same department which created one-offs like Eric Clapton’s SP12 EC and the 458 MM Speciale. The car is said to be a 488 Spider rebuilt in a brand new design and body.
The limited edition card is powered with 3.9-litre V8 that won the overall 2016 International Engine of the Year Award. The top speed is expected to be a little more than 200 mph. On the exterior design front, the J50 comes in a special shade of three layered red.
The body work is a piece of sheer art and something that can’t be ignored easily. It is futuristic and completely distinctive. The interior has been done with red and black with fine trimmed leather and Alcantara and looks different from the 488s.
The Italian automaker is known for its polycarbonate cover and the same has been included in J50 to protect the engine. The rear side of the car has also been modified. The back of the card has a bold design that makes the car look wide from the rear visual profile.
According to the brand, the design approach was ‘led by the desire to create a low-slung roadster, encapsulating intrinsic ferrari values of nimbleness and agility.’ There has no official announcement made on the price of the car.
We hope to hear soon about the price. The car was certainly a pleasant surprise and has taken the exclusivity of the brand all the way to a new level.
