In today’s generation, you may be able to play video games in virtually any platform, not just consoles. Back then, we had the Atari, the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the Sega Genesis before which rendered only 2D graphics. Then came the consoles that were capable of rendering 3D graphics such as the Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation, and the Sega Saturn.
Today, Microsoft has its own console, and the long-running gaming industries have already released their latest gaming consoles which includes the Nintendo Switch. But not only that, mobile devices such as smartphones, PC tablets have also been made as instruments for gaming as well. And over the recent years, televisions or TV boxes are also capable of connecting to the Internet, running applications, and playing games. One example of these devices is the Amazon Fire TV.
If you own this kind of device and you enjoy playing video games, below is a list of the best games that every gamer should at least try playing on their Amazon Fire TV. But before we start on the list of games, I think you should at least be familiar of the internal specifications of your device. At present, there have already been three generations of the Amazon Fire TV, with each one having different specs than the other versions. Candy Crush Saga
Candy Crush Saga is a free to download puzzle game by King that requires you to match three candies and accomplish certain tasks to complete levels. The game was released for the Amazon Fire OS on December 11, 2014, but before it made its way to the Fire OS, it was initially released in 2012 for Web browsers, iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices.
The concept of Candy Crush is very simple, each level you will need to do a specific task that you need to complete so you can proceed to the next stage, and you may be able to do this by matching at least three candies either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. If you are able to match more than three candies, you will be given a special candy that will allow you to perform special actions when paired with another normal or special candy.

Crossy Road
Crossy Road is like today’s generation’s Frogger, but with a chicken protagonist in place of a frog, and in an endless mode. The basic concept of the game is similar to Frogger, in which all you need to do is to cross a pathway—a busy street, a river—without getting run over or falling down the water. The game was released for the Amazon Fire OS on December 14, 2014, and has had positive reviews since.
There are no missions or objectives with Crossy Road, and all you need to do is to go as far as you can without getting killed. You are allowed to move anyway you want, either across or along the street. But in cases where you need to cross a river, you will need to go on floating logs to be able to get to the other side. Speaking of the “other side,” the game is actually a play on the anti-humorous riddle “Why did the chicken cross the road?” to which the answer is “To get to the other side.”
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a fast-paced 2D shoot-em-up game that is played in a top-down perspective similar to NES games such as Commando, Metal Gear, and Guerrilla War. This game was developed by Dennaton Games and Abstraction Games, and was published by Devolver Digital. It was released worldwide in 2015 for all platforms and operating systems, including the Amazon Fire OS.
This game serves as both a prequel and sequel to Hotline Miami, since the events that take place in this game occur both before and after the first one. It is played similarly to its predecessor, wherein you control the protagonist in a top-down view, shooting down enemies using a wide range of weapons. But unlike the first game that only gave players a choice between two characters, there are a total of thirteen different characters to choose from on this game, each with their own skills and own storyline.

Shadow Fight 2
If you are into fighting games like Street Fighter or Tekken, then you may also be interested in Shadow Fight 2. This game is the sequel to Shadow Fight, which is a 2D role-playing fighting game both developed and published by Nekki. This game was released worldwide in 2014 for multiple platforms and operating systems. As mentioned earlier, Shadow Fight 2 is a fighting game with added RPG elements to allow players to upgrade their character’s armor, weapons, and skills.
The game mechanics of Shadow Fight 2 is very much similar to most fighting games wherein you will need to defeat opponents in a three-round match to be able to proceed to the next level. The only difference with this game is that you will only be allowed to control one protagonist, and how good your character becomes rely heavily on the upgrades. The characters in the game are entirely silhouettes, thus the title, but the movements and animations are very smooth and realistic.
Pac-Man 256
I think we are already familiar with who Pac-Man is, and he has already been around since 1980. Pac-Man, or Pakkuman in Japan, is a side-scrolling arcade game that was developed and published by Namco, though it was developed by Midway in North America. Pac-Man has now been considered as one of the widely recognized video game classics, as well as an icon of the 1980’s culture. To date, there have already been various Pac-Man video games released including spin-offs and ports to different platform. One of which is Pac-Man 256 for iOS and Android devices that was first released in 2015. The game was re-released in 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
For Pac-Man 256, the gameplay is pretty much the same with the other Pac-Man video games, wherein the player controls the protagonist along a maze to eat all the power pellets while trying to keep distance from the four ghosts (Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde). While the original games had levels that ended when all power pellets have been consumed, this one has an endless maze that Pac-Man will have to go through, constantly consuming the power pellets until he gets caught by at least one of the ghosts.
New features of the game include the blast power-up that you can get after eating enough pellets in a row, and this allows you to clear up all ghosts that are on-screen. Other power-ups that can be picked up are the laser, tornado, clone, and fruit multiplier power-ups. And for the ghosts, there are new ones introduced in this game: Sue, Funky, Spunky, and Glitchy.

Tetris
Lastly, another classic video games that holds a very special place in a lot of people from both old and new generation, Tetris. Though this game was originally designed and developed by Alexey Pajitnov, a Russian video game designer, Tetris has evolved over the years and has been redesigned and republished by various video game companies. To take us back to the history of the game, Tetris was originally released on June 6, 1984, for multiple gaming platforms. Due to the popularity of the game, one gaming magazine even ranked Tetris in first place in the list of the “Greatest Video Games of All Time.” In the recent years, the developers of Tetris has signed a partnership with Ubisoft and SoMa Play to bring the game to the latest gaming consoles to coincide with the celebration of the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
Back to the port that was released for the Amazon Fire TV, this game was released on December 18, 2013, with the most recent update released on April 27, 2017. Similar to the more recent versions of Tetris, this one allows you to choose among three game modes: Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra Mode. Marathon Mode requires you to play through 15 puzzling levels to complete the game. Sprint is a time-based mode that simply requires players to clear out 40 lines in the fastest time possible. Lastly, the Ultra Mode, which is also time-based but scores you on how many lines you can clear in two minutes. Another bonus feature for this port is it allows you to use the classic Tetris theme to let you reminisce on all your childhood memories with the game.
Now that we have reached the end of this article, we would like to ask you if you have played at least some of these games before, because if you have, then good for you, but if you haven’t, then you should start doing it. But then again, there are even more excellent games that can be played on an Amazon Fire TV other than the ones listed here, so be sure to stay tuned to the next part of this list.
